WHY THE PENNY?
How could you hear the Penny's story and not want to do something about it? I knew the Penny had the potential to change the world of trafficking. Now, thanks to all of you, we are seeing that become a reality!
is it illegal to stamp WORTHY into the penny?
Short answer, no it is not. It is legal to turn currency into artwork or jewelry. Think about the machines at souvenir shops where you put in 51 cents and you get back your penny imprinted with the place you're visiting. Your penny is now out of the currency system because it became a souvenir. If you try to use that penny or the WORTHY penny as currency, that is illegal. But just having it as jewelry, artwork, or a souvenir is not illegal. This is the simple way of explaining it. If you would like further explanation (in more legal terms), email us!
WHERE IS THE PENNY BRACELET MADE?
The penny bracelet is made in Gulf Shores, Alabama, by a team of local, penny-loving artisans. We choose to have the bracelets made locally so that we can ensure that they are manufactured without the use of slave or forced labor.
WHY FIGHT HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
We could say, why fight human trafficking over other injustices? Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world. Less than 2% of victims are rescued out of trafficking situations and many are re-trafficked within two years after exiting a trafficking situation.
Unlike drugs that can be sold once, a person can be sold over and over again, every day, multiple times a day. This makes the crime extremely lucrative. How can we know this exists and not do something about it? Your something could be as small as buying a penny bracelet. And who says you can't put effort forth in fighting multiple injustices? Fight trafficking by purchasing a penny bracelet, and then go conquer the rest of the world with a penny on your wrist!
WHERE AND HOW DOES THE PENNY STORY FIGHT HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
The Penny Story fights human trafficking by your efforts and purchase. People hear the Penny's story, connect with the metaphor of the penny being like victims, and then want to do something about it, which leads them to buying a penny bracelet. When you buy a bracelet, 20% of your purchase goes to the A21, one of the top organizations in the world working on the preventative and restorative sides of human trafficking.
WHERE AND WHEN WERE YOU FOUNDED?
The Penny Story was founded in October 2013 when the first penny bracelet was made in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
